SHSAT Scoring: How Your Score Is Calculated
Written by Ascend Academic mentors—students from top universities helping others succeed.
SHSAT scores are derived from your raw answers, then scaled and combined into a single score used to rank students for school offers. Here’s how it works.
Raw Score and Scaling
You earn points for correct answers. Raw scores are converted to scaled scores so that different forms can be compared. The exact scale is set by the DOE each year.
Composite and Rank
ELA and math scaled scores are combined into one composite. Students are ranked by that composite; offers are made in rank order until seats are filled. See SHSAT cutoff scores for how cutoffs work.
Using Your Score
Use score reports to see strengths and gaps. A focused study plan and, if helpful, SHSAT tutoring can target weak areas.
